Australia's Gold Coast has some of the most perfect white silica sand and crystal clear water that you could ever hope to see; so is it any wonder that on the Gold Coast, beach fishing is so popular.

Early evenings, anywhere along the coast you'll see the Gold Coast fishing fraternity standing on the shore blissfully gazing at the sunset, rod in one hand (or holster) and beer in the other. Early in the morning and during the changing of the tides, eager anglers silently await that inevitable, gentle tug at the end of the line that signals another whiting for the bucket.

With the exception of the flagged swimming areas, just about anywhere along this vast stretch of coastline should give you a sporting chance at taking home some of the Gold Coast's best angling fish such as whiting, bream, flathead, snapper and dart. Of course, when the tailor are running in winter you will find a larger than normal number of eager anglers trying for their share of the booty.

But don't worry if you haven't packed your beach fishing gear, as there are plenty of local establishments that will happily kit you out.

Of course, as in most parts of Australia, it is illegal to keep undersized fish and there are restrictions to the number you can take home.
